This server provides a variety of services for myself as well as friends and family. You're welcome to take advantage of what's here. Some details on what I can offer are below.
If you're looking for technical or legal info on nerdylorrin.net check out the links to the left.
Want to set up a home page? Tina, Dad, and Janet already have web pages here. You're welcome to join the crowd. First, decide if you want your page on my domain (http://www.nerdylorrin.net/your_name) or if you want your own domain name. I can handle the logistics of purchasing a domain name but it costs about $15/year.
If you want a website:
Once everything's set up you can access your files with WebDAV (see the WebDAV instructions on the Wiki).
You're also welcome to keep your photos in the gallery. Just register yourself, login and you're good to go. To upload photos Mac users might want to check out iPhoto2Gallery and Windows XP users can use the built-in Publish to Web feature by clicking on the "Windows XP" tab on Gallery's Add Items screen.
If you want you can have a nerdylorrin.net email address. Mail accounts are the same across all domains so any nerdylorrin.net addresss is simultaneously a gourd.org (etc.) address as well. Like for web sites you can have any domain name you want (e.g. yourname@yourdomain.org) but you'll have to pick up the tab for it. You can have multiple aliases if you want (e.g. I use lorrin and lhn).
You can either have mail accumulate your mailbox here or have it forward to another account. If you leave it here you can access it with IMAP and webmail. IMAP can be used like POP (where you copy the mail to your computer and delete it off the server) but the real fun is leaving it on the server. Then you can access your mail from any of your computers and always see the same set of folders and messages.
You can also use the nerdylorrin.net server to send messages as well. Normally ISPs only let you send messages when you're connected to the ISP (which is tedious for travelling laptop users) and the big webmail places only let you send messages from your webmail address. You can use the nerdylorrin.net server to send messages from any of your email addresses.
If you want an email address I'll need the following information:
Once everything's set up you can configure your mail client (see the mail instructions on the Wiki) as well as log in to webmail via the Mail link on the left.
Someone already snagged the domain names lorrin.org and lorrin.net so I had to make do as best I could!
