This is a web site created by Professor Karen Gourd in the Department of Educational Studies at Knox College. At this site you can find specific information about courses taught by Karen Gourd.

The Purpose of This Site

This site was created to make information readily available for Educational Studies majors at Knox college and for students in my courses. The web site saves trees because information that previously was included on hard copies of documents and course syllabi is now available electronically.

Students currently enrolled in a course I am teaching may want to immediately select "Courses" from the menu at the left. From the home page to courses, you can select the specific course from the menu and find the information relevant to your needs. You will be able to find specific information for particular assignments and find general guidelines for successful participation in any course.

You can find links to students' web sites created for courses taught by Karen. Check them out and enjoy the students' work; however, students' work is only kept "live" for a single term.  If the links do not work or you want to see other samples, contact me to view CD versions.

You can find out more about my family and me by visiting my personal page.

What can you find at this site?

Brief summaries of each of the items on the menu at the left are provided as an overview of the information available at this site.

Advising Information

Educational Studies majors at Knox College complete all Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) requirements for certification in addition to requirements for all Knox College students and requirements specific to the Department of Educational Studies. Consequently, Educational Studies majors need to be good planners. See an advisor as soon as you become interested in the major.

Requirements, guidelines for completing the major, and a four-year plan are available to assist majors in their planning. Majors are responsible for staying up-to-date on requirements and for adhering to guidelines for field work, application deadlines, and completing necessary ISBE exams for certification.
